 The AI disclaimer

Every Civio Assist chatbot shows a disclaimer making clear that the user is talking to an AI assistant rather than a member of staff. It sets expectations up front and supports your obligation to be transparent about automated services.

When users see it
-----------------

There are two display behaviours, and the Civio team can configure your chatbot to use either:

- **Automatically when the chat opens.** The disclaimer appears before the user types anything, so nobody can miss it.
- **When the user selects the help button.** The chat opens straight into the conversation, and the disclaimer is available behind the **?** button next to the chatbot's name.

Which should you choose?
------------------------

Showing it automatically is the safer choice, and the one to prefer if your organisation has a policy on disclosing automated services. Putting it behind the **?** button gives a cleaner first impression and suits bots handling short, low-risk enquiries.

Changing the wording or behaviour
---------------------------------

Both the wording and the display behaviour are set per chatbot by the Civio team. They are not settings you change yourself.

To request a change, contact your Civio representative with:

- The exact wording you want, already approved by whoever signs off public-facing copy at your organisation.
- Whether it should appear automatically or behind the **?** button.

Keep it short. The disclaimer is read in a small chat window, and a long paragraph tends to be skipped. One or two plain sentences work best.
